Bovada will no longer be accepting new players from New Jersey, according to an announcement from Betting Partners, their affiliate network.
The move comes just days after New Jersey gaming officials sent letters to six major poker affiliates warning them to remove links to unauthorized offshore gaming sites or face legal action.
In a press release, Betting Partners explained the move saying:
Our partner brand Bovada.lv has chosen to stop new account registrations for residents of the state of New Jersey. Existing account holders will not be affected.
The statement went to to say that this is a proactive move from Bovada, which was not one of the companies to receive a cease-and-desist letter from the Garden State.
This is a decision they have taken of their own volition and they hope that their existing customers continue to enjoy all of the products and services Bovada.lv has to offer.
Americans who use Bovada for online sports betting (which is not legal in New Jersey) and online casino gaming (which is legal in New Jersey) will be unaffected by the new policy.
With New Jersey cracking down on grey market gaming, it will be interesting to see if Nevada and Delaware follow suit.
